Black and White Student Choice!

Your next project will be your choice of subject matter which we will make into a black and white photo. Take the photo in color and we'll change it through PhotoShop. Use your imaginations and make it something interesting! Pay special attention to contrast since it will be B & W. 35-40 shots are due on Monday, March 5th.

Architecture Project

Your Architecture Project will consist of your 12 best shots on a contact sheet and one 5x7 JPEG. You should edit 6-12 photos to be able to determine your best shot. Go for something unusual. Pay attention to shadows and color. You may use a filter on this photo, but make sure it ENHANCES the picture. Project is due Wednesday, February 28th.

Web Sites

Some interesting web sites (might help you on the upcoming test!):
www.howstuffworks.com/camera.htm
www.andylim.com/photo/
Read about exposure, depth of field, aperture and shutter speed.

Next Photo Shoot

Your next photo shoot will be "Architecture or Architectural Detail". It should be an exterior shot of a permanent man-made structure. Think about your composition. Try to make your photos unique and interesting by varying the angle, lighting, etc. As always, you will need to take 35-40 shots to have 12 good photos for your contact sheet on Monday, February 26th. Remember to bring in your cameras, cords, and memory cards!

Landscape Project

Your final landscape/seascape photo will be due on Friday, February 23rd. This should be your best shot, cropped as needed, color corrected, brightness/contrast corrected, and saved as a 5x7 JPEG to the completed assignments file. You'll need to edit several photos to be able to choose your best shot.

Next Photo Shoot

Our next photo shoot will be a landscape or seascape. It can be a beach scene, wooded area, or farmland. People or structures should be incidental--not the primary focus. You are going for beauty with this shot--think "calendar picture". Take at least 35-40 photos (the equivalent of a roll of film). Photos will be due on Monday, February 19th.

Spirit Week Project

I have extended the deadline for Spirit Week contact sheets until today, February 13th. I will assign deadline grades at the end of each period. If your contact sheet is not saved in the completed assignments folder, as a JPEG, with 12 photos, you will receive a zero for "deadline". Our finished project will be due on Friday, February 16th. You will edit your photos by cropping and correcting color, brightness/contrast, and any defects. Paste your best six photos to a 'Word' document and write captions for each, as if for the yearbook or newspaper. This should be a one-page document with two columns. Save to completed assignments folder using your number.

This week in Photography Class

Monday you will finish up your research project. Make sure you have the handout (6 slides per page!), grading sheet, and storyboard. Be sure to proofread your PowerPoint!
Tuesday we will begin presentations. As we finish the presentations, we will begin a unit on 35mm and digital cameras---learning the parts and what they do.
Friday will be the test on the History of Photography. Know about all the photographers we have studied and be sure to go over the worksheets you have done from the reading and movie.
All this week is Spirit Week at school. Take as many pictures as possible relating to Spirit Week activities for our next project. At least 35-40 photos (equivilent to a roll of film) will be due on Monday, February 12th. Next week we'll take the best ones, write captions as if for the yearbook or newspaper, and put together a project for a grade.
